Engineering & Delivery
Front-End Studies
It's a necessity, not just an optional extra.
Conceptual and feasibility studies require in-depth understanding of key factors and issues, often with limited information. The more work done up front, the fewer unwanted surprises encountered — leading to better outcomes.
01
Front-End Engineering Design (FEED)
FEED is the Basic Engineering conducted after completion of Conceptual Design or Feasibility Study. Before EPC commences, various studies take place to resolve technical issues and establish a robust investment cost estimate. The level of detail required varies according to risk and project drivers. Atticus Energy has the expertise to drive FEED tailored to your project — or to modify and update an existing design.
Key activities
- Basis of Design and Basic Engineering Design Data
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Heat & Material Balances
- P&ID development (Issued for Design)
- Equipment list and data sheets
- Preliminary hazardous area classification
- Plot plan and 3D model review (30%, 60%)
- Utility balance and flare study (relief load summary)
- Preliminary MTO and cost estimate
02
Feasibility & Concept Select Studies
Feasibility Studies provide a quick and cost-effective way to inform whether a project is worth investing in. Conceptual design is key to maximising value — it is the stage where the solution space is largest and the cost of change is lowest. Atticus Energy brings an open-minded, rigorous approach that explores all options before narrowing to the optimum concept.
Key activities
- Concept Select and options analysis
- Feasibility and pre-FEED studies
- Technical and commercial risk identification
- Open-minded exploration of the full solution space
- Stakeholder input framing and workshops
- Concept screening and recommendation
03
Specific Engineering Studies
We have engineers across all disciplines, with an extensive network of specialists we can call upon to provide studies of all kinds and complexity. Atticus Energy excels at identifying key areas to focus on early, avoiding unnecessary work and reducing downstream surprises.
Key activities
- Flow assurance studies (slugging, hydrates, wax, corrosion)
- Process schematic development using heuristics
- Safety studies: HAZID, HAZOP, QRA (preliminary)
- Environmental and ESHIA assessments
- Value engineering and constructability reviews
- International standards selection and compliance
04
Roadmaps, Schedules & Cost Estimates
We provide credible, robust and optimised project services support for roadmaps, schedules and cost estimates. These are vital inputs to business planning and investment decisions. Atticus Energy understands that poorly defined schedules and costs are one of the leading causes of project failure.
Key activities
- High-level project roadmap development
- Preliminary schedule and critical path identification
- Class 4 / Class 5 cost estimates
- Uncertainty and risk-driven contingency assessment
- Business case development and support
05
Economics Assessment & Front-End Loading
We support clients with economic analysis and project proposals to investors. Atticus Energy has in-house expertise drawn from the financial sector, and a unique assessment system built over years to evaluate whether sufficient front-end work has been completed before project sanction.
Key activities
- Project economics and NPV/IRR analysis
- Front-End Loading (FEL) assessment against industry benchmarks
- Assurance and independent review services
- Investor presentation support
- Plot selection and site survey scoping
- Stakeholder engagement strategy and execution
